Judicial Clerkships

Judicial Clerkships

Judicial and Court clerkships are great opportunities because they are foundational building blocks to so many types of jobs in government, the private sector, and nonprofits. And, for that reason, many CUNY Law graduates have chosen to clerk for a judge as their very first legal job. Clerkships can also be a great second or third act in a graduate's career—and experience as a clerk is one pathway to becoming a judge, especially in New York State Courts.  Read the Career Planning Office's "Judicial Clerkship Guide" to learn more about the benefits of clerking and clerkships.

Like fruits in the produce section of a supermarket, clerkships come in all shapes and sizes—and there can be a right fit for you. The two main categories of clerkships are in the Federal and State Courts.
