Individual Career Counseling
Career Planning provides confidential, one-on-one counseling sessions to students and alumni of the law school, and counselors are available throughout the year. In compliance with National Association for Law Placement guidelines, counseling for first-year students begins November 1st. The purpose of the rule is to give first year students an opportunity to focus on study of the law in the first two months of law school, not looking for employment.
Resume and Cover Letter Review
Counselors will review your draft cover letters and resumes and provide with feedback on how to improve them.
On a case by case basis, we provide assessments such as the Myers-Briggs and Strong Inventory and we provide interpretation of the results.
By appointment, student can meet with a career counselor to practice interview. Ideally it is best to schedule mock interview several days in advance of the actual interview date.
We have several quiet rooms that you can use to do an interview by the phone. We also can arrange for video-conferencing of interviews-depending on the requirements of the interviewing employer.

Alumni Network Referrals
From time to time, you may find a need to speak to a CUNY Law graduate. Maybe you need to speak to someone about a particular law office? Or you may like to know more about a particular practice of law that you are exploring. By request, we can refer you to a graduate; also we encourage you to participate in networking events as well as in join CUNY Law LinkedIn where you can meet many alumni on your own.
If you are looking for a career opportunity outside the New York City metropolitan area, you may desire to use the resources of another law school's career center. The Career Planning Office will make these "reciprocity requests" to another law school.
