Dave Fields, University Dean, serves as Special Counsel to the Chancellor
of the City University of New York and is a non-teaching member of the faculty.
His involvement with the Law School predates its creation as he served as Staff
Director of the President's Advisory Commission for the establishment of the
University School of Law at Queens College. He later served as the Law School's
Associate Dean for Administration and Finance. Prior to his service as Special
Counsel to four successive Chancellors of CUNY, he was Special Assistant to
three successive Queens College Presidents and Executive Director and General
Counsel of the Queens College Student Union. He has served in numerous public
service and public interest roles, including founding Director of the New York
Public Interest Research Group (NYPIRG); Higher Education Specialist to the
Governor's Temporary Commission on the Future of Post Secondary Education in New
York State (on special assignment to the Executive Chamber); Staff Coordinator
for the Governance Committee of the Governor's Task Force on Higher Education;
and Staff Coordinator for the New York City Council President's Task Force on
Adult Education. He earned his undergraduate and master's degrees at Queens
College and received his law degree from St. John's University Law School. He
received the Dean's Medal in 2002 for his contributions to the Law School.
