Michelle J. Anderson, Dean of the Law School and Professor, is a graduate of Yale Law School where she was Notes Editor of the Yale Law Journal and Editor of the Yale Journal of Law & Feminism. She was a member of the faculty of Villanova University School of Law from 1998 to 2006, where she taught criminal law, criminal procedure, children and the law, and feminist legal theory and received top rankings as a classroom teacher. She has also been a Visiting Scholar at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, and a Visiting Professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.

Dean Anderson is an honors graduate of the University of California, Santa Cruz, where she earned a B.A. in Community Studies in 1989 and the Chancellor's Award for outstanding academic achievement. She earned her J.D. at Yale in 1994, where she was a Research Fellow in the Program in Civil Liability. She also received research fellowships from the Orville H. Schell Center for International Human Rights and the Ford Foundation in Public International Law.

Following law school, Dean Anderson clerked on the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit for Judge William A. Norris. She then worked at Georgetown University Law Center as a Fellow and Visiting Professor in the Appellate Litigation Program and the Institute for Public Representation, respectively. There she earned an LL.M. in Advocacy and represented clients pursuing a range of civil rights claims and criminal appeals.

Dean Anderson is a former member of the board of directors and Policy Chair for the National Alliance to End Sexual Violence.
