Susan Markus,
Director of the Legal
Writing Center,
received her B.A. and J.D. from Temple
University. After five years as a staff attorney at the
Legal Aid Society of New York, Criminal Defense Division, and two as an Administrative
Law Judge for the Environmental Control Board of the City of New York, she began teaching at CUNY Law
School. She has taught first-year Lawyering Seminar,
Trial Advocacy, and Torts and has supervised students in the Criminal Defense
Clinic. She taught in the Lawyering
Program at NYU Law School
from 1999-2002, but returned to CUNY’s lawyering program in 2002 and was
appointed Director of the Legal
Writing Center
in 2008. In addition, she is an
Impartial Hearing Officer, appointed by the New York State Department of
Education to hear cases brought under the federal Individuals with Disabilities
Education Act.
