Board of Visitors

The Board of Visitors of the City University of New York School of Law at Queens College was established by authority of the City University of New York Board of Trustees as described in the Law School Governance Plan, originally adopted June 27, 1983. It is an independent body whose general purpose is to advise the Law School Dean and other faculty and administrators regarding a range of issues concerning the Law School and its relationship to the greater community.

The Board has the following responsibilities:

  1. The Board serves as advisor to the Dean, faculty, and administration of the Law School regarding its academic program, its role in the community, the placement of its graduates, and other relevant matters. In order to fulfill this responsibility, the members of the Board will be informed about the operations of the Law School through meetings, visits, and written materials. The Board reports its perception of problems and progress to the Dean from time to time. It assists the Dean and faculty with future planning by providing a sounding board for the exploration of new ideas and by informing the Law School regarding the changing needs of the profession and the community. It serves as consultant to the Dean on a variety of matters as needed.
  2. The Board serves as liaison with the legal profession and the general community. It provides and fosters communications between the Law School and the various constituencies it serves. It helps to promote general understanding of, and support for the Law School?s mission and goals.
  3. The Board plays an active role in identifying and securing additional financial resources for the development of the Law School including assistance in the solicitation of public, legal profession, corporate, foundation, and individual support.
  4. The Board assists in identifying and securing internships and job placements for students and alumni.
