To The CUNY School of Law Community:
In response to the needs of our Community and in order to treat all
of those operating licensed motorized vehicles in the same manner, we
have somewhat altered the physical conditions of our parking facility
as well as the policies governing that facility.
All motorized vehicles permitted to operate in the State of New York
and using any portion of our parking facility must purchase a parking
permit. Those individuals operating a licensed motorcycle or motor
scooter may purchase a special permit for $20 a semester. We have
provided four spots for such vehicles in the front (Main Street)
portion of our parking facility. These vehicles may be locked to the
railing abutting these spots, if the operator so desires. These
vehicles may only park in these spots and their operators should
purchase this special permit as soon as possible. No licensed motorized
vehicle may be parked on the sidewalk or anywhere else on CUNY School
of Law property.
Three additional spaces for handicapped parking have been added.
They are located to the left of the rear parking lot doors. Also, two
of the authorized spaces have been removed and are now available for
those with regular parking permits.
If anyone has any questions concerning the School's parking
policies, please feel free to contact either me or Steve Katz, the
Director of Campus Security, Health and Safety.

CUNY School of Law Parking Policy
Issued August 2006
Effective Fall 2006
- In order to park in the School's parking facility, the individual
(no matter whom; faculty, staff or student) must purchase from the
Business Office (at full cost) a parking permit (insignia or placard)
for that semester and prominently display it as instructed for that
semester. The semester begins as of the first day of classes and ends
with the last day of finals. There are no discounted permits and
parking fees may increase as expenses of upkeep may require.
- There are no guaranteed parking spaces even though a permit has
been purchased. The CUNY School of Law is a first-come first-serve lot.
Parking in the School's lot is at one's own risk.
- The Security Office is responsible for traffic control. In order to
maintain safety, directions of the officer on duty, or any other member
of the Security Office must be followed. Failure to do so may result in
disciplinary charges, the revocation of parking privileges and/or the
towing of a vehicle.
- All those, whether student, staff or faculty who park in a Disabled
space MUST have a Law School-issued disability parking permit. The new procedures for applying for a disability parking permit are listed below.
- To park in an Authorized vehicle space (along the east fence in the
main back lot) you must be authorized by the Administrative Dean.
- On occasion, there may be several spaces reserved for visitors,
including guest lecturers, contractors and other visiting CUNY
personnel. To park in a reserved Visitor space you must be authorized
by the Security Director or his/her designee.
- Visitor spaces should be reserved through the Office of the
Administrative Dean at least 48 hours in advance to ensure the
availability of a space.
- No one, other than authorized security personnel, may remove
barriers used to reserve spaces. Removal of these barriers may result
in towing of vehicles and/or revocation of parking privileges for the
semester.
- No one may reserve a space through any manner other than that
prescribed herein. Upon leaving the parking facility, no one may place
any barrier in the space they have vacated. Such action may result in
revocation of parking privileges.
- Anyone parked illegally (for example, in a disabled space without
proper credentials, in an authorized space without appropriate
permission, in a cross-hatched space or in any general space without a
permit for the given semester or permission for the day) may at the
discretion of the School be towed, booted and/or lose parking
privileges for that semester.
- Once a vehicle is towed, it is the owner's responsibility to retrieve it at their expense.
- Vehicles may not be left in the lot overnight without the expressed permission of the Security Director or his/her designee.
- The School of Law reserves the right to amend these regulations at any time as conditions dictate.
Procedures for Disability Parking Permits
Issued August 2006
Effective Fall 2006
To receive a Law School-issued disability parking permit, you must
follow the procedures in the attached policy. Please note the sections
regarding verification of State or DOT issued placards as evidence of
disability, and the limited duration of disability status without such
evidence. Please note: the Security Department will vigorously enforce
this policy.
- Any State or DOT issued plate or placard indicating disability
parking privileges must be designated for that particular student or
staff member asking for the privilege at the Law School. You must be
prepared to present documentation from the issuing agency demonstrating
this.
- Anyone requesting disability privileges who does not possess a
State or DOT issued plate or placard must present a physician's note
explaining the need for such an accommodation and for the specific
period of time required. Such temporary requests will be granted for no
more than the length of a School semester and will not be renewed.
Longer accommodations will require you to apply for and receive a state
or DOT issued placard.
- Parking in a disability designated space without a Law School issued permit may result in your vehicle being towed.
- A regular Law School parking placard must be purchased for any
vehicle utilizing the Law School's lot. There is no additional charge
for a disability placard.
