CUNY Law Hosts First Exchange Student From England
September 9, 2009
In a new venture that crosses the Atlantic, CUNY Law School will host Emma Lavery as its first law school exchange student from Northumbria University in England. Lavery, a third year student in Northumbria's four-year law program, won a scholarship to study clinical education at CUNY Law for one month. The student exchange, initiated by Professor Beryl Blaustone, one of CUNY Law's founding faculty members, will provide Lavery with an opportunity to gain active experience working with clients in Main Street Legal Service's Mediation Clinic.
"Our goal is to provide students from Northumbria and from CUNY Law with a wider range of direct experience and lawyering approaches," said Professor Blaustone. "We anticipate that this program will provide an ongoing opportunity for CUNY Law students to study at Northumbria as well as their students to study with us," she added.
Professor Blaustone is currently a visiting Professor of Teaching and Learning at Northumbria, a university with almost 30,000 students and nine schools, including a law school.
