responsible for the completion of bar certification forms and character and
fitness forms.
Applying to Sit for a Bar Examination
Students must apply directly to the jurisdiction(s) for
which they intend to sit for the bar examination.
New York State Bar
The New York State bar examination application can be
downloaded from the New York Board of Law Examiners website: www.nybarexam.org
Applications to take the bar examination must be either
postmarked or filed online no more than 120 days, nor less than 90 days prior
to the examination for which application is being made.
NY Bar Exam Certification
As part of your application to sit for the bar, the NY Board
of Law Examiners requires that a Law School Certificate of Attendance form be
completed by the Law School. The Board
of Law Examiners has authorized law schools to submit a final transcript in
lieu of the Law School Certificate of Attendance. CUNY School of Law has elected to file your
transcript in lieu of the Certificate of Attendance of the Law School.
Specimen of Applicant’s Handwriting
The Office of Career Planning certifies the Specimen of
Applicant’s Handwriting form, a part of your application which must be
completed in the presence of a member of that office. The last day for requesting certification of
the handwriting specimen is the last day of classes.
Completion of the handwriting specimen will be notification
to our office that you intend to sit for the New York bar exam. After you have
been certified for graduation, your final transcript and your handwriting
specimen will be forwarded to the New York State Board of Law Examiners.
Character and Fitness Application
The Office of Registration & Student Records Management is
