CUNY School of Law student organizations cover many areas of interests, but students are encouraged to form and register new organizations if a specific interest or mission is not reflected in any of the existing organizations.

Student Government and Committees
An independent mechanism for unified student action and a voice for academic, government, political, and social concerns.
At CUNY School of Law, the Student Government is an inclusive forum to address students' needs and concerns. Twelve representatives are elected from each class to represent the student body. Elections for second and third year representatives are held in the spring and elections for first year representatives are held in the fall. Any matriculated student, registered and in good standing, is eligible to run for a Student Government position. The Student Government elects students from within its ranks to serve on selected Law School Committees.
The Director of Student Activities coordinates the elections for Student Government and Law School Committees.
AGAPE Christian Fellowship
This group explores how Christian values foster social justice. The group supports spiritual growth through the study of the Bible and Christian tradition.

American Bar Association Law Student Division
This is a national organization that provides students invaluable inside information into the field of lawyering. Among many other benefits, there are excellent opportunities for networking and leadership positions in over 600 different legal areas.

American Constitution Society
The CUNY Chapter works to ensure that the fundamental principles of human dignity, individual rights and liberties, genuine equality, and access to justice are in their rightful, central place in American law. Asian Pacific American Law Students Association
This organization strives to promote a greater understanding of Asian-Pacific American legal issues affecting our diverse communities and cultures by serving as a vehicle for political activity and by providing thorough academic support for future Asian Pacific American lawyers. Black Law Students Association
The purposes of this group are to ensure its members successful completion of law school by providing mentors, study sessions and counseling; sponsoring conferences, workshops, lectures and networking activities; and providing help in finding summer and full-time employment. Criminal Law Society

CUNY ACLU

CUNY Contemplative Urban Law Program
This program pushes the boundaries of the legal profession past adversarial relationships through self-sustaining and collaborative practices such as non-violent communication, active listening, and stress management through meditation and yoga. Contact: cculp@mail.law.cuny.edu
Domestic Violence Coalition

Green Coalition
This is both the environmental law society of the CUNY School of Law and an advocacy group that works to strengthen the environmental commitment of the CUNY community. The Green Coalition serves the law school through educational events, sustainability initiatives and support for students wishing to connect social justice to environmental law. Inter-American Comparative Law Association

International Law Organization
The goal of this organization is to increase awareness and understanding of international law, and to educate the CUNY community about recent advances and conduct legal research. The organization monitors and researches developments in this area and sponsors speakers, films and other information forums. ILO is the CUNY chapter of the International Law Students Association. Irish Law Students Association
This group promotes Irish heritage, culture, intercultural relations and knowledge of contemporary Irish politics. ILSA sponsors the annual St. Patrick s Day luncheon as a principal way to fund its Joseph Doherty Civil Rights Fellowship for CUNY law students. ILSA is committed to human rights and has regularly invited renowned guest speakers to speak. Jewish Law Students Association
This association provides a forum for students to discuss a wide range of issues of particular concern to Jewish law students, including professional, political, religious, and social issues. Justice Basketball

Latin American Law Students Association
This group sponsors academic, cultural, social, and community service activities to strengthen the presence of Latinos in the legal profession. LALSA serves as a liaison between its members and the administration, the student body, alumni, and professionals in the field. LALSA also works to increase the number of Latin American students at CUNY and to ensure that students receive support to achieve academic and professional success. CUNY Labor Coalition for Workers Rights and Economic Justice

LEAP (Law Equality and Policy)
This organization serves to provide an opportunity for future lawyers and leaders to affect positive change in the social, judicial, political and economic policies that shape our nation and the world. The mission is grounded in three main ideas -- that policy should be based on values of human dignity and respect; that policy reflects an interaction between people and their environments; and that the role of future lawyers and leaders is critical in how policies shape the world. Mississippi Project
This extracurricular group organizes a trip to Mississippi for students to aid in the continuing struggle against oppressive conditions faced by marginalized groups in the state's workplaces and courtrooms. Past delegations have worked on legal issues ranging from Title VII claims to worker compensation laws. CUNY students working with the Innocence Project spend approximately two weeks investigating claims of wrongful conviction for individuals incarcerated in Mississippi. Moot Court
This activity helps students gain written and oral advocacy skills. These skills include researching, brief writing, public speaking, and teamwork. Competitions provide for one-on-one feedback and support from faculty, as well as the opportunity to develop confidence and crucial trial and appellate practice skills. Muslim Law Students Association

National Lawyers Guild
The CUNY Chapter follows NLG's mission that human rights shall be regarded as more sacred than property interests. The chapter conducts Street Law Trainings; organizes legal observer trainings, voter registration and Fair Trade Coffee campaigns; and schedules panel discussions on various issues ranging from anti-death penalty and prison reform to environmental activism. This is a student-run publication that seeks to publish the best of legal scholarship from all points of view on various legal topics within the broad framework of the Law School s mission. OUTLaws
OutLaws is the association for GLBT, PWA, HIV+ communities and their allies, bringing social, educational, political and cultural events to the law school. The organization aims to enhance the diversity of legal education at CUNY by providing a safe space for all students, staff and faculty to discuss social, legal and extra-legal issues involving people who are HIV+, living with AIDS, gay men, lesbians, bisexuals, transgendered and other sexual minorities. This is a student-directed organization that promotes the participation of public interest forums and public interest legal work through fundraising activities, including the annual PILA auction (a social highlight of the year).
