In Sarah Lamdan‘s article “When Westlaw Fuels Ice Surveillance: Ethics in the Era of Big Data Policing,” published in the New York University Review of Law & Social Change, she identifies ethical issues raised when lawyers rely on services that are data brokers for ICE and other law enforcement agencies, fueling the policing agencies’ surveillance programs. Lawyers put their clients at risk when they provide case data to these services and pay subscription fees to companies that build police surveillance technology.
