First Impressions Legal- Black logo

Mentorship within First Impressions serves as a bridge between young people and legal professionals, fostering mutual understanding and growth among a community committed to more representative justice. Youth gain a more nuanced impression of the justice system and their agency to shape it, while mentors develop a deeper understanding of the challenges, aspirations, and unique perspectives of young people, enabling them to become more effective advocates and role models.

Career Conversations

Alumni from across the CUNY Law community are invited to participate in panel discussions, career showcases, learning lunches, and opportunities to create more pathways for young people eager to understand how they might pursue a career or calling in social justice advocacy.

The Journey to Becoming A Lawyer

First Impressions breaks down the process of how young people can aim to apply to law school, thrive as students, and gain the hands-on experience essential to being a social justice lawyer. By sharing the journeys of lawyers with different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives, First Impressions advances the idea that it is easier to be it if you can see it.

Alternative Pathways to Social Justice

There are many ways to use a J.D., which no one knows better than a CUNY Law grad. From serving in elected office across New York City and State, to representing and empowering New York City residents in the Courts, to leading nonprofits and grassroots organizing campaigns, CUNY Law alumni illustrate the many ways you can use a law degree in the service of human needs.
