DESCRIPTION:This day-long conference hosted at Brooklyn College in celebration of International Women’s Day features remarks by Leymah Gbowee\, Executive Director of the Institute on Gender\, Law\, and Transformative Peace. \n— \nFrom Brooklyn College: \nSpeakers will include 2011 Nobel Peace Laureate Leymah Gbowee\, Executive Director of the Institute on Gender\, Law\, and Transformative Peace and Liberian peace activist\, social worker\, and women’s rights advocate; Michele Bratcher Goodwin\, professor of constitutional law and global health policy\, and co-faculty director\, O’Neill Institute at Georgetown Law School; Carine Jocelyn\, CEO of Diaspora Community Services\, and founder\, Haitian Women’s Collective; and Aleah Ranjitsingh\, University of the West Indies. \nThe CUNY Haitian Studies Institute presents this event in collaboration with the Office the President; the School of Humanities and Social Sciences; the Caribbean Studies Program; the Women’s Center; the departments of Africana Studies\, Sociology\, and Modern Languages and Literatures; The Haitian American Lawyers Association; and the Institute for Gender\, Law\, and Transformative Peace\, CUNY School of Law. \nThe event will be held at Brooklyn College in the Library and the Woody Tanger Auditorium.
