SUMMARY:Labor and the Carceral State
DESCRIPTION:Join the LPE Project and the AFL-CIO Union Lawyers Alliance on September 26 at 4PM ET for a discussion about the possibilities and limitations of applying existing labor law frameworks to work performed by incarcerated people. Incarcerated workers are some of the most vulnerable to violence and exploitation\, yet their struggles have historically been omitted or excluded from the purview of the labor movement. This webinar will explore the key differences between work protections in the carceral and free worlds\, recent litigation and legislative strategies\, and how labor lawyers can support incarcerated labor struggles. \nPanelists include Professor Andrea Armstrong (Loyola University New Orleans\, College of Law)\, BJ Chisholm (Altshuler Berzon)\, Ronald Marshall (Voice of the Experienced)\, and Professor Noah Zatz (UCLA Law). The conversation will be moderated by Corinne Blalock (LPE Project).
