DESCRIPTION:Join us for the launch of Ending Isolation: The Case Against Solitary Confinement\, co-authored by CUNY Law Professor Deborah Zalesne and writer Christopher Blackwell\, who writes from within the Washington State prison system. \nThis powerful new book weaves firsthand accounts of life in solitary confinement with legal and medical analysis to make a compelling case for abolishing the practice. The event will feature a conversation between leading national advocates working to end solitary confinement: \n\nJohnny Perez\, National Religious Campaign Against Torture\nJessica Sandoval\, Unlock the Box Campaign\nAnisah Sabur\, Unlock the Box Campaign\n\nThe discussion will be moderated by co-author Professor Zalesne and will explore the constitutional\, medical\, and human rights dimensions of solitary confinement—along with the political landscape in New York amid efforts to weaken the HALT Solitary Confinement Act. \nThis event is co-sponsored by CUNY Law’s Abolitionist Law Organization.Free and open to the public.
