DESCRIPTION:CUNY SCHOOL OF LAW\nGROUP ADMISSION TO THE\n UNITED STATES SUPREME COURT BAR\n\nDean Sudha Setty and the Alumni Office invite up to 50 alumni/ae and a guest to enjoy a memorable experience at the U.S. Supreme Court in Washington\, D.C.  The half-day includes being admitted to the Bar of the U.S. Supreme Court in open court and a continental breakfast in one of the Court’s conference rooms. \n Wednesday\, June 18\, 2025\n(note that Thursday is the Juneteenth national holiday)\n\nFor sign-up information please send your name\, e-mail and mailing addresses to Franklin Siegel at siegel@law.cuny.edu.\nYou will be sent detailed information on how to participate. This is a “make-up” for the June 2020 Group cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic\, so preference will be given to participants from the 2020 group who notify the school by November 30th that they wish to participate. \nNOTE:  Attorneys are eligible for admission to the U.S. Supreme Court Bar if they have been admitted to the bar of a state\, the District of Columbia or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico for at least three years prior to admission and must not have been the subject of any adverse disciplinary action during the three years prior to admission.  (Supreme Court Rule 5.)   The day’s activities are offered at cost.  Approximately $225 includes the Court’s $200 Bar admission filing fee\, and the cost price for a light continental breakfast including tax and gratuity (breakfast price subject to finalization; additional charge for guest’s breakfast provided at cost).  Does not include transportation or lodging.

In the process\, she uncovers “Operation Vulgar Betrayal\, one of the largest FBI terrorism probes conducted before 9/11 and reveals its enduring impact on the community. \nFollowing the film\, Asad Dandia will discuss being a teenage Muslim plaintiff in a landmark lawsuit challenging the NYPD’s surveillance of Muslim communities\, leading to a historic settlement. Asad will share his personal experience with unlawful surveillance and discuss the broader implications for civil rights and religious freedom.\nEvent is co-sponsored by CUNY MLSA\, SJP\, LALSA\, IRAP\, LPE and NLG. DESCRIPTION:Presented by Professor Joe Rosenberg\, CUNY Law & Mariana Negron-Quinones\, Attorney at Safe Passage Project\, CUNY Law ‘19. \nParticipants will learn how to advise parents about advancing planning documents to protect minor children\, to be used in the case of a parent’s detention or deportation\, including: \n\nTemporary Care & Custody: Someone to make temporary decisions over the children’s daily routines\, school related decisions\, and routine medical decisions.\nStandby Guardian: Someone to care for children long-term.\nPower of Attorney: Someone to make financial decisions only for their children and/or for other family members\, for example paying bills\, signing leases\, and using bank accounts.\n\nKey information about emergency planning: \n\nEmergency planning is done in advance.\nDocuments created for the purposes of emergency planning can be created without having to go to court.\nParents can always change or revoke (cancel) the document.\nThe documents we will discuss do not change a parent’s legal rights to their children or people under their care.\nThe person chosen as the caretaker\, guardian\, or agent for the parent’s children will not act unless the parent has been detained or deported.\n\n  \nParticipants will also learn about the Planning with Parents Guided Interview\, an interactive program that provides information about advance planning\, generates advance planning documents\, and includes instructions on how to execute these documents. \nFor more information visit: https://planningwithparents.commons.gc.cuny.edu/
