SUMMARY:Basics of Navigating SSI & SSDI: Eligibility\, Appeals\, and What to Do if You Win (CLE)
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]This Continuing Legal Education (CLE) program presents an overview of the two federal long-term disability benefit programs administered under the Social Security Administration (SSA): Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI). This CLE will discuss the major differences between SSI and SSDI and review basic eligibility requirements for each program. We will review the entire complex process through initial application\, the layers of internal appeals\, and the administrative law judge (ALJ) hearing. Attendees will learn about SSA regulations\, best practice tips\, and practical guidance for issues that arise when a client wins this potentially life-changing benefit. You will leave this CLE with real-world strategies for assisting clients in navigating this confusing administrative system and the interplay between federal and NYS benefits. \nPresenters:\nMilena Pisano-McNally ‘12\, Senior Staff Attorney\, Disability Advocacy Program\, Legal Services of the Hudson Valley\nJenny C. Turpin ’09\, Supervising Attorney\, Legal Services of the Hudson Valley \n3 CLE credits:\n2.0 Professional Practice\, 0.5 Ethics & Professionalism\, 0.5 Diversity\, Inclusion and Elimination of Bias \nRegistration is required. Click here to register. \nCLE Credits provided by the Community Legal Resource Network at CUNY School of Law:\nThese CLE programs are approved for both experienced and newly admitted attorneys\, except that newly admitted attorneys are not eligible for the Diversity\, Inclusion & Elimination of Bias credit. Consistent with NY State regulations\, CLE credit will be offered only to those attorneys completing the entire session; attorneys attending only part of a session are not eligible for partial credit. Attorneys arriving late are welcome to attend the program but will not be eligible for credit. Also note that for remote programs\, attorneys must view the webinar; we cannot extend credit for audio-only participation.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
