In his essay “Coming of Age at the End of History,” Prof. John Whitlow adds to Law and Political Economy Blog‘s series on Social Movements & Activism by sharing his story of becoming a community lawyer in the early 2000s, when our political possibilities were more limited than they are now. Arguing that we find ourselves in a moment of societal change, we must embrace a radical overhaul of the market economy’s relationship to society, “with the former subjected, democratically, to the latter.”
