Rebecca Bratspies’ chapter in The Cambridge Handbook of Commons Research Innovations, entitled “Seeing New York City’s Urban Canopy as a Commons,” considers tree planting initiatives in NYC, arguing that we should analyze them through an environmental justice lens and theorize the urban forest as a unified public commons as a path forward towards a more equitable city.
