Critical Voices: Addressing Anti-Asian Racism in the U.S. and the Rapid Decline of Human Rights in Hong Kong and China

Join the Sorensen Center for a “Critical Voices: From Local to Global” discussion with Frank H. Wu and Sharon Hom who will address the rise of anti-Asian hate and violence in the United States. Hom will also discuss the steeply deteriorating human rights situation in Hong Kong and China.

Wu serves as the eleventh President of Queens College and is the author of Yellow: Race in America Beyond Black and White. He recently wrote the foreword for the report, A Rising Tide of Hate and Violence against Asian Americans in New York During COVID-19: Impact, Causes, Solutions, co-authored by the Asian American Bar Association of New York and Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP. Wu was the first Asian American to teach law at Howard University.

Hom is Executive Director of Human Rights in China where she leads its international advocacy and strategic policy engagement with NGOs, governments, and multi-stakeholder initiatives. Professor of Law Emerita at CUNY Law, Hom taught law for 18 years, including training judges, lawyers, and law teachers at eight law schools in China. She also teaches human rights seminars at New York University School of Law and the University of Hong Kong Faculty of Law.
