Dave Fields, Senior University Dean, is a non-teaching member of the faculty. His involvement with the Law School predates its creation, as he served as Staff Director of the President’s Advisory Commission for the establishment of the City University of New York School of Law. He later served as the Law School’s first Associate Dean for Administration and Finance for over two decades.

Dean Fields also served as Special Counsel to five successive Chancellors of CUNY, was Special Assistant to three successive Queens College Presidents, and Executive Director and General Counsel of the Queens College Student Union.

He has served in numerous public service and public interest roles, including as a founding Director and Incorporator of the New York Public Interest Research Group; Higher Education Specialist to the Governor’s Temporary Commission on the Future of Post-Secondary Education in New York State (on special assignment from the Executive Chamber); Staff Coordinator for the Governance Committee of the Governor’s Task Force on Higher Education; Staff Coordinator for the New York City Council President’s Task Force on Adult Education; and Parliamentarian to the New York City Charter Revision Commission, the Queens College Academic Senate, the Law School Faculty, the University Student Senate, and the National Student Association’s Eastern Region.

He earned a technical Diploma in Broadcast Electronics from Brooklyn Tech, his undergraduate and master’s degrees at Queens College, and received his law degree from St. John’s University Law School. He received the Dean’s Medal in 2002 for his contributions to the Law School. He serves on the CUNY Law Board of Visitors.
