We the Staff of CUNY School of Law are in solidarity with BLSA, our Faculty of Color, Black Lives Matter, and Black people globally who continue the fight to end systemic racism and demand justice for equality.  We demand justice for Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, Rayshard Brooks, George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and the countless others, named and unnamed, that were either killed by the State or due to anti-Black racism.

Collectively, we understand the work we need to do to rid systemic racism and oppression from our work-place and person. While there are those who may disagree, we acknowledge our imperfections and biases as we work towards understanding the roles of power and privilege in our work, society, and daily lives, and we support our colleagues and students who are experiencing injustice due to anti-Blackness and the violation of their rights.

We acknowledge that the recent murders of Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, Rayshard Brooks, George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless others represent the continued history of excessive force by police against Black communities that needs to end today. We support the end to the State’s violence, and violation of the rights and liberties of its citizens. In closing, we strongly condemn white supremacy and racial terror in our community and demand reconciliation. We fully support the statements of our faculty and students of color, and we are committed to doing the work both individually and collectively that is required to bring about effective and lasting change in our social, political, and educational structures.
