WHAT YOU CAN DO RIGHT NOW

What you can do right now

In this moment of national reckoning, we must move from outcries of distress and disgust to conversation, action, and transformation.

Now is the time to lead: mobilize, organize, call our representatives, and vote. Now is the time to connect with skeptics who have resisted the idea that the administration is dangerously hateful and discriminatory toward immigrants and people of color.

1. Donate to causes supporting legal challenges to the order

CUNY Law’s Immigrant & Non-Citizen Rights Clinic and the Creating Law Enforcement Accountability & Responsibility Project – These teams of faculty, students, alumni, and local partner organizations are leading the charge here in NYC and across the country. Your support will make sure we can continue to make reports like Swept Up in the Sweep and big wins like the reinstatement of Tanvir v. Tanzin happen.

ACLUoften leading the charge, fighting attacks through the legal system

The Florence Project – providing legal and social services to detained immigrants in Arizona

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) – a civil rights advocacy organization working to resolve anti-Muslim discrimination through mediation, negotiation, public pressure, and legal action

United We Dream – the largest immigrant youth-led network in the country

2. Get news and get organized

There’s some folks you should follow. We recommend subscribing to our ever-growing Twitter list Advocates Doing Justice, a selection of  advocacy organizations, leaders, news sources, and more. And you should follow us, too

Subscribe to more newsletters. Yes, it’s worth the inbox overload. A few that we like are The Marshall Project, the ACLU’s Speak Freely, and many options from Mother Jones.

Bookmark CUNY Law’s Immigration Law Research Lib Guide. Constantly updated, this resource compiles primary and secondary sources, as well as top immigration blogs, trending news, and more.

3. Mobilize. March. Make noise. Repeat.

Show up to the big event: #FamiliesBelongTogether March on June 30

Sign the ACLU’s Petition: Separating Families is Inhumane
