Reporting the rule of law in crisis

A student opportunity to volunteer as legal correspondents and news writers from JURIST

JURIST (jurist.org; on Twitter @JURISTnews) is recruiting CUNY Law student volunteers to serve as national (US) and local (NY) correspondents or general news writers for its award-winning non-profit legal news service. Staffed by 90 volunteers from 30 law schools on six continents, JURIST bylines individual student correspondents working as members of a virtual editorial team under the direction of several US-based law faculty and professionals.

Qualifications:

  • Journalistic experience is helpful, but not required. New volunteers will be trained by US-based law professors and professional journalists.
  • All applicants should have at least 5 hours a week available, some scheduling flexibility, strong writing skills, enthusiasm for news and reporting, good attention to detail and an interest in explaining law-related developments to a worldwide public in plain English.
  • 1Ls and 2Ls are particularly encouraged to apply.

JURIST:

  • In the US, JURIST is currently staffed by law student volunteers from Harvard Law School, Boston University Law School, Pitt Law, Vermont Law School and UNLV Law, among others
  • JURIST has fast-growing network of international law student volunteer correspondents and news writers working in countries around the world, including Afghanistan, Australia, Belarus, Canada, India, Iraq, Kenya, Myanmar, New Zealand, Pakistan, Uganda, Ukraine and the UK.
  • JURIST is building up a US law student network of correspondents and news writers from across the country to support our global coverage of the rule of law in crisis.
