CUNY Law Students Fernando Mendez ’22, and Namrata Mogilisetty ’22, hope to diversify the legal profession this summer.

The Diversity Fellowship Program provides first-year law students from underrepresented populations the chance to spend a summer in one of New York’s leading law firms and corporate/government law departments.

Fernando Mendez ’22 is honored to be one of the 2020 NYC Bar Diversity fellows.

He will be spending his summer at Haynes and Boone, LLP which is one of the American Lawyer top 100 law firms, with more than 575 lawyers in 17 offices and 40 major legal practices.

As a first generation American and son of immigrants, he is proud to be able to bring his experiences to a field that needs to do far better in diversifying the workplace.

The fellowship has already opened many doors for him by providing valuable skills workshops and connections with mentors and alumni that will help him throughout his legal career.

Fernando hopes to gain vital experience working with associates and partners across various practice groups all the while proudly representing the CUNY School of Law.

Namrata Mogilisetty ’22, is honored to be spending her summer with the New York City Law Department (NYCLD).

This fellowship has given her the opportunity to gain invaluable transactional experience with their Contracts and Real Estate Division.

More importantly, as an immigrant and a woman of color, she hopes to use this opportunity to represent her community and take an active part in diversifying the legal profession.

The NYCLD’s 1,000 lawyers and 890 support professionals work collaboratively to pursue justice and provide the City with the highest quality legal representation.
