Four Decades without Justice: Bhopal’s Survivors of the Union Carbide Gas Disaster SPEAK
Bhopal Gas Disaster Survivors visiting US from India will speak to us about their four decades long efforts for justice. Bhopal gas disaster is one of the most tragic industrial accident causing catastrophic environmental and human harm. More than 40 tons of methyl isocyanate gas leaked from a pesticide plant in Bhopal, India, immediately killing at least 3,800 people and causing significant morbidity and premature death for many thousands more. It is one of the events that is cited as the catalyst for the push for corporate accountability to human rights. In addition to survivors, our panel includes our very own Rebecca Bratspies and Arvind Rajagopal, Professor of Media Studies and Sociology at NYU for a broader discussion on environmental justice and corporate accountability.
