Julie Goldscheid is a Professor Emerita at CUNY School of Law, where she served as Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs from 2015-2017. She taught civil procedure, legislation, lawyering, and courses on gender and law and gender violence, and helped develop the Family Law Practice Clinic. She currently teaches the Gender Violence Advocacy simulation class at NYU School of Law and consults with nonprofits and academic institutions on policy issues. Prof. Goldscheid formerly was senior staff attorney and acting legal director at Legal Momentum (formerly NOW Legal Defense and Education Fund), where she litigated cases, including U.S. v. Morrison, 529 U.S. 598 (2000), before the Supreme Court, and was general counsel at Safe Horizon. Her work and scholarship focuses on gender violence, civil rights and economic equality. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Center for Survivor Agency and Justice (CSAJ), and on the Advisory Committee for the Free to be Youth Project and has served on the boards of the Stonewall Community Foundation, the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center and the Hetrick Martin Institute. She has also taught at Yale Law School, Columbia Law School, Penn State Law School and Brooklyn Law School. Prof. Goldscheid received her law degree from NYU School of Law, a master’s in social work from Hunter College School of Social Work, and her undergraduate degree from Cornell University.
