On Monday, September 15, the CUNY Law community welcomed Kristen Clarke, former Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights and our 2025 Burns Chair, with a series of events that included a Fireside Chat with student leaders.

From the insights she shared from her career in civil rights law to her call for lawyers to be imaginative creators of justice, Kristen reminded students that the work is never easy, but it’s critically important. Clarke answered student questions about values and career paths. She asserted that, as public interest lawyers who serve people and not power, CUNY Law alums are needed everywhere—from nonprofits to government offices to big law.

We’re honored to learn from Clarke’s leadership and proud to welcome her to our community of scholars and advocates.
