On Friday, May 17th, CUNY School of Law’s 34th Commencement saw Juris Doctorates conferred to 167 graduates, 48 of whom make up the first-ever class to graduate from the Law School’s Evening Program, a manifestation of the school’s mission to make legal education accessible and inclusive.

The Honorable Letitia A. James, Attorney General for the State of New York, and CUNY graduate will provide the Commencement Address. Letitia “Tish” James is the 67th Attorney General for the State of New York, the first woman of color to hold statewide office in New York, and the first woman to be elected Attorney General.
Professor Martha S. Jones ‘87 will receive the degree of Doctor of Law, honoris causa, from CUNY Law in recognition of her work as a distinguished, talented, and committed alumna who lives its mission — “law in the service of human needs” — through activism and scholarship. Professor Jones is the Society of Black Alumni Presidential Professor and Professor of History at The Johns Hopkins University.
CUNY Law will confer the Dean’s Medal to Marnie Berk ‘96 who has chaired the CUNY School of Law Foundation and currently leads New York Lawyers for the Public Interest’s Pro Bono Clearinghouse, a national model, providing legal services and capacity building to thousands of nonprofits each year.
Opening remarks will be delivered by Henry T. Berger, Trustee of the City University of New York, and Brian O’Dwyer, Director of the CUNY School of Law Foundation.
