Long Island City based grocery chain is now providing regular donations to stock the CUNY Law Food Pantry.

CUNY School of Law is proud to announce a new partnership with Foodcellar Market, a Long Island City grocery store known for its organic produce and prepared foods. Through this collaboration, Foodcellar is contributing food to the CUNY Law Food Pantry to help sustain our community of students—many of whom balance rigorous academic commitments with significant financial and caregiving responsibilities.

This partnership reflects a community-centered approach to meeting students’ nutritional needs and ensuring equitable access to essential resources.

“CUNY Law is a community where students, faculty, and staff look out for one another. The Food Pantry is one way we ensure that students have access to the resources they need to thrive in a demanding academic environment. We’re glad to deepen that commitment through this partnership with Foodcellar Market.”

– Sudha Setty, CUNY School of Law Dean

The first delivery of goods arrived during final exams, and the partnership will continue into the fall semester. Contributions from Foodcellar expand the range of shelf-stable items available to students. Recent donations include pasta, rice, chicken, tuna, vegetables, beans, peanut butter, flour, and soups.

“We’re proud to partner with CUNY School of Law to address food insecurity among its students. Every student deserves the opportunity to focus on their education, and we’re honored to help make that possible,”

– Metin Mangut, partner at Foodcellar Market

This partnership strengthens the Law School’s broader food access efforts, including a recent award from the CUNY Central Office of Student Affairs that funded monthly food vouchers and new pantry stock through the end of the academic year.

“We recognize that food insecurity is a barrier to student success and this collaboration shows the impact of working with community partners to ensure our students must fundamental needs are met,”

– Dr. Joanne Hyppolite, Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management

CUNY Law’s Food Pantry, opened in 2014, is one of more than 20 food pantries open to all CUNY students. A 2022 survey by the University’s Healthy CUNY initiative found that 40% of CUNY students – or an estimated 110,000 – reported having “low” or “very low” food security. The CUNY food pantries collectively serve more than 130,000 students annually.

Together, these initiatives deepen the Food Pantry’s role as a reliable, responsive resource for students. The CUNY Law Food Pantry is located in the CUNY Law building at 2 Court Sq., Long Island City, NY. Students can access the pantry 24/7 via swipe card or schedule appointments to pick up pre-packed bags on campus.
