Since January 2025, President Trump has taken unprecedented steps to control independent federal agencies, including unlawful firings of agency heads and an Executive Order asserting presidential authority over the entire executive branch. Of particular concern are agencies central to election integrity — the FEC, EAC, FCC, and USPS. The article argues that presidential control over these bodies threatens free and fair elections, and urges Congress to reassert oversight by relocating enforcement authority to Article I courts or Congressional committees.
