Opportunities for students that connect critical legal study, movement practice, mentorship, research, and funded public-interest work.
A key component of the Haywood Burns Program is providing students with the resources and skills they need to be effective people’s lawyers. Each year, we will select a cohort of Burns Fellows.
Burns Fellows will receive mentorship, support, and funding for social justice and movement law summer internships at partner organizations, including the Center for Constitutional Rights, Grassroots Impact at the Urban Justice Center, Make the Road New York, the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, and the NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection.
Law and Organizing Academy
Burns Fellows will participate in an interdisciplinary Law and Organizing Academy, and will be eligible to take a one-credit seminar taught by the Program’s co-directors.
