In this session, you'll begin your journey of developing your professional identity in the law, which begins at orientation and continues throughout law school, clinic, and your legal career. We'll also examine how these differences shape legal education, professional conduct, and ethical standards, including how we interact with clients, judges, adversaries, and law school staff and faculty. This session is the first in a series on Professionalism in the Legal Profession during your first year.

Cultural Competency

In response to law school advocacy, the ABA updated Curriculum Standard 303 to require that all law schools provide education to law students on bias, cross-cultural competency, and racism as these skills are essential to the practice of law. At CUNY Law, we have long recognized that understanding the intersection of racism and social justice lawyering is a critical component of legal education.
