The following sections provide specific information about the course requirements for each program, in addition to the requirements for the JD.

JD/MPA – John Jay – Inspection and Oversight

Law School Faculty Liaison:

Credit requirements: The MPA degree program requires the completion of 42 credits. Twelve (12) CUNY Law School credits will be credited toward the MPA Program. Likewise, twelve (12) MPA credits will be credited to the CUNY Law School JD program.

  • Law School courses credited to both JD and MPA curriculum:
    • Legal Research (2 credits)
    • Administrative Law (Public Institutions) (3 credits)
    • Evidence (4 credits)
    • Clinic (3 of the offered credits)
  • MPA courses credited to both JD and MPA curriculum:
    • PAD 723 Assessments, audits and Investigations in Human Resources (3 credits)
    • PAD 740 Public Section Inspection and Oversight (3 credits)
    • PAD 742 Public Sector Accounting and Auditing (3 credits)
    • PAD 758 Ethics, Integrity and Accountability (3 credits)
  • You must also take the following courses to satisfy the requirements of the MPA:
    • PAD 700 Public Administration
    • PAD 715 Research Methods
    • PAD 706 Bureaupathology
    • PAD 745 Program Evaluation
    • PAD 749 Forensic Accounting (PAD 742 prerequisite)
    • PAD 771 MPA capstone seminar

Law School

JD/MA – John Jay – Forensic Psychology

Credit requirements: The MA degree program requires the completion of 42 credits. Twelve (12) CUNY Law School credits will be credited toward the MA Program. Likewise, twelve (12) MA credits will be credited to the CUNY Law School JD program.

    • Civil Procedure (Law 709) (3 cr.)
    • Constitutional Structures (Law 7193) (3 cr.)
    • Criminal Law (Law 7131) (3 cr.)
    • Torts (Law 7141) (3 cr.)
  • MA courses credited to both the JD and MA curriculum (4 of the following 5 courses):
    • Clinical Interviewing & Assessment (761)
    • Intermediate Statistics in the Social Sciences (769)
    • Mental Health Professionals, Social Science, and the Law (PSY 700)
    • Psychopathology (745)
    • Research Design & Methods (715)
  • Law School You must also take the following courses to satisfy the requirements of the MA:
    • Human Growth & Development (731)
    • Personality Assessment III (753) (or PSY 779, 751, 752)
    • Counseling Methods (760) (or PSY 761)
    • Fieldwork in Counseling (780.01)

JD/ MA – Full-time

JD/ MIA – Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership

Credit requirements: The MIA degree program requires the completion of 33 credits. Nine (9) CUNY Law School credits will be credited toward the MIA Program. Likewise, twelve (12) MIA credits will be credited to the CUNY Law School JD program.

  • The following JD courses are credited to both the JD and the MPA Curriculum:
    • Law Clinic (code varies)
  • The following MPA Courses are credited toward both the JD and the MPA curriculum:
    • IR B6100: Theories of International Relations
    • IR B6200: International Organization
    • IR B6927: International Political Economy
    • PSM B1877: Introduction to Quantitative Methods
  • Law school: You must also take the following courses to satisfy the requirements of the MIA:
    • IR B6300: International Law
    • 3 additional IR electives
    • NOTE that the CUNY law clinic will satisfy the IR program’s capstone research project.
