Anti-Asian Violence and Hate Crimes

April 19, 2023 @ 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM EDT

Free

Students, faculty and staff are invited to join us for a special program on the history of hate crimes, current issues in anti-Asian violence, and what law students and lawyers can do.

Our guest speaker Glenn D. Magpantay is a long-time civil rights attorney, professor of law and Asian American Studies, and LGBTQ rights activist. Glenn worked on hate crimes at the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund (AALDEF). He lobbied for the successful passage of the federal Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Act, which President Obama signed into law in 2009. He knows the law and its limitations very well.

Dinner will be available.

This event is made possible through a CUNY Campus Climate Grant.
