Guided Pro Se Name Change Clinic

April 29 @ 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM EDT

Join the Sorensen Center for International Peace and Justice’s Trans and Gender Non-Conforming (TGNC) Rights Project for its first Guided Pro Se Name Change Clinic on Monday, April 29 at CUNY Law (2 Court Square West, Long Island City, NY)!

This afternoon-long Clinic will provide an opportunity for students, faculty, staff, and alumni from the CUNY community to receive tailored, one-on-one support from trained volunteers on how to pursue the pro se legal name change process in NYC. Registered participants may stop by at any time during the time slot(s) selected on the registration form to receive assistance from CUNY Law student volunteers who will walk them through completing the application and reviewing required supporting documentation. If you are not quite ready to begin preparing the application (or even if you don’t plan to apply at all), you are encouraged to attend to learn about the process and access other information/resources that may be helpful to your communities and clients.

If you would like support pursuing a name change at the Clinic, registration by April 15 is highly encouraged to help ensure adequate staffing (though it will remain open beyond that date). Please do share this invitation with members of the CUNY community beyond CUNY Law as we hope to provide this resource for as many folks as possible! Refreshments will be provided.

Register at https://forms.gle/JveFsiLWfQxxqonb9.

The TGNC Rights Project, developed at the Sorensen Center, aims to create access to much-needed legal information and support for TGNC and LGBTQIA+ students, faculty, and staff across CUNY. If you would like more information about the Clinic/Project or if you have any questions, please contact sorensencenter@law.cuny.edu.
