We, the Pauli Murray chapter of Phi Alpha Delta, stand in solidarity with the Black Law Students Association and the Black Lives Matter movement. Black lives matter! Black Americans have carried a heavy burden since before the birth of this nation that cannot be repaid. The systemic racism that Black Americans have endured must end and will only stop when all Americans come together to condemn racism, fascism, and the extrajudicial killings of Black Americans.
The time for passivity is over. We must all extend our voices to say that Black Lives Matter. George Floyd mattered, Breonna Taylor mattered, Freddie Gray mattered, Sean Bell mattered, Tamir Rice mattered, Oscar Grant mattered, Trayvon Martin mattered, Emmett Till mattered, Sandra Bland mattered, Mike Brown mattered, Eric Garner mattered, Ahmaud Arbrey mattered, Rayshard Brooks mattered, and all of the unnamed thousands who have died or been maimed by police brutality mattered. The heavy handed and overtly racist tactics of how Black Americans are “policed” must end.
We, at the Pauli Murray chapter of Phi Alpha Delta, are committed to ending injustice and creating an equitable society for all people. We mourn the loss of Black lives along with Black Americans and our many allies. We will no longer stand idly by while Black people are subjected to disparate treatment at the hands of bias police. Our constitution does not allow for the arbitrary and capricious enforcement of the law. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. We will not be silent until all people have liberty, equality and equal due process of the law.
We will continue our mission to advance integrity, compassion, and courage through service, especially with the Black community. We pledge to strengthen our partnership with BLSA and to plan projects and events highlighting Black lawyers who made impacts on their communities and the legal profession.
BLACK LIVES MATTER!
