If you experience a serious health event that affects your participation in class or other academic activities, SDS can work with you and your instructors to arrange short-term accommodations.

Short-term temporary accommodation requests related to significant health events—such as major injury, hospitalization, or other serious medical circumstances affecting a student’s participation—are reviewed by SDS on a case-by-case basis. This process often involves consultation with faculty and review of relevant medical documentation provided by the student.

Students seeking temporary accommodations should follow the process outlined in How to Request Accommodations & Register or contact the SDS office directly for assistance.

For short-term illnesses (e.g., cold, flu) or non-medical circumstances that interfere with participation, please contact your instructor directly instead of SDS.

Additional Support Resources

  • Counseling & Mental Health Services – Provides emotional and psychological support for students.
  • Student Emergency Grant Program – Offers funding to help cover emergency expenses; applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
  • Leave of Absence or Medical Withdrawal – These processes can be initiated at any time; contact SDS for more information and guidance.
